Subject: Testimonial Letter
Dear Dr. Schiff:
This letter is offered with gratitude for what I have received so far from your practice. Please let me begin with some history. I have been seeing Dr. Denis McMillan for 14 years as my Cardiologist. He is a wonderful Doctor and has always been concerned with my healthcare. He has told me repeatedly that I need to lose some weight. But stubborn me, I have been ignoring his gentle persuasions, and it finally came to a decision point about three months ago. I had reached the point that I could not walk the 75 feet from my garage to the mailbox without being short of breath. I could not get a good night’s sleep and felt more tired every morning when I arose from bed. Dr. McMillan prescribed a Sleep Apnea test, and I eventually received a CPAP machine. I thought that would do the trick, but alas, it did not. I found out I was a Type II diabetic in 1985, when I contracted pneumonia in Dallas, Texas and they ran a series of tests on me. I have since had three heart episodes, a 4 way bypass operation in 1995, and two stent operations , one in 2001, and one in 2006. I had not been feeling good, my mobility was rapidly decreasing, and I exhibited the familiar lack of patience and irritability that most diabetics will immediately recognize. In short, my life was getting worse by the day and Dr. McMillan was concerned about my lifespan. In 1996 I sought the services of an Endocrinologist and I was told that my pancreas had stopped functioning and I needed to take insulin. I had two types, Lantus, for a twelve hour effect, and a Novolog Flexpen for a two-hour effect, before meals. I have tried all sorts of diets, Weight Watchers, South Beach, Atkins, Mediterranean, etc. None of them worked for me, probably because I was not a good boy, and only went at it half heartedly, and I always had the “crutch” of taking a little more insulin if I needed it. (I had not yet learned that you can actually take too much insulin and it works against you.) All of this kept giving me false hopes and I felt doomed to an early death.
Then I was encouraged by Dr. McMillan to come and see you. This adventure has changed my life. Your program and regimen works for me. I have lost over 30 pounds and I feel 20 years younger. I was worried about how I could afford your services until I began to see some startling improvements.
Within 10 days of starting your program I was able to eliminate my need for insulin totally. I only have to take Metformin now, twice a day. I do not need my CPAP machine any more, and you are starting to carefully remove other medicines that I don’t need. I was paying out of my own pocket during the Donut Hole in the Medicare program $ 920.02 per month for insulin and needles, and $107.75 for Crestor. That is $ 1,027.77 that I don’t have to take out of my own pocket. Since your program only costs me about $ 500.00 per month, I found out I could not only afford your services, but that I actually come out ahead.
I started walking ½ mile mornings and evenings on your program. At first, I could only get about 200 feet before I had to stop and rest my aching muscles and catch my breath. Needless to say it took me quite a while to get around the ½ mile. But, as the weight started to come off, and my muscles got stronger, I can now do it in 15 minutes without stopping. I also learned that the types of fat you consume are very important, and there is such a thing as “Fat Traps”. Where some fats are retained by the body as the brain is signaled to save them for energy when you need it. Other types of fat as described in your program can be eliminated as waste products.
Your office is the only support group that I have outside of my lovely wife. Your personal attention and caring attitude has really encouraged me. Your staff has obviously been trained by you, or are learning from you how to care for their patients. I feel that I can relax and concentrate on my “program”, knowing that I have dedicated people that are watching me. Your program is not just about weight loss. The wellness portion is just as important and acts as the glue that holds it all together. At least that’s the way I see it.
I am recommending your practice to everyone I know.
Sincerely,
Robert W. Brindley
